Mary Elizabeth Spence, 25, passed away suddenly on Sunday, March 10, 2024, at Salem Regional Medical Center. A lifelong resident of Salem, Mary was born on August 24, 1998, to the late John and Evie Spence, enveloping the world in a burst of joy that would become her signature trait throughout her life.
A 2018 graduate of Robert Bycroft School, Mary was always full of cheerfulness and happiness. Her willingness to help others and her vibrant personality were as unmistakable as her loud voice and the volume at which she played her beloved YouTube videos. She found solace and expression in painting, could spend hours assembling puzzles, and was a devoted fan of Disney movies and singing. Mary's love for shopping was unparalleled; she was quick to grab clothing that caught her eye and put it in the shopping cart. When at the grocery store with her family, she would tell them what groceries they needed to buy!
Mary leaves behind a loving family who will miss her dearly. She is survived by her sister Juli Spence, brother Deegan Spence-Carlisle, cousin Nathan Franklin, aunt Gayle Franklin, uncle Gary Franklin, aunt DeLisa (Mike) Spence-Rosine, and grandparents Katherine Franklin, Juli Easter, and John Spence, along with many cherished cousins. Mary's passing was preceded by the loss of her parents and her grandfather Gary Franklin, Sr.
Family and friends are invited to gather and share memories of Mary at Stark Memorial Funeral Home on Sunday, March 17, 2024, from 2:00-3:30 p.m., with a time for family sharing to follow at 3:30 p.m. Mary will be laid to rest at Hope Cemetery, where she will be surrounded by the family she loved so dearly.
In her honor, attendees are encouraged to wear bright colors or cartoon character clothing, a fitting tribute to a life lived with such vibrancy and warmth.
Her legacy will be carried on not only in the memories of those who loved her but also in the laughter, the music, and the colors she spread so freely. Mary Elizabeth Spence's spirit will continue to be a beacon of happiness, reminding us all to cherish the simple pleasures and to approach life with a heart full of joy.
