Mykola Prychodczenko Obituary

SALEM - In the early morning of April 6, 2024, Mykola Prychodczenko peacefully left this world to meet his Lord and Savior.

He was born on November 14, 1925, in Carpiliwka, Ukraine to Ewlampij and Chrystia (Zawora) Prychodczenko. He was educated in the village school until WWII broke out. Having survived the artificial famine of 1932-33, and the oppression of Communism under the Stalin regime, his family gathered their belongings and crossed the border into Romania. After many trials, hardships, and a very long journey across Europe, they finally made their way to Germany and the DP camp of Regensberg.

From there, he was able to find a sponsor in the Youngstown area and come to America and freedom in February of 1950. Mykola soon met his wife, Maria (Pohribniak) and they were married on September 9, 1950.

Mykola retired from the Eljer corporation in 1989. He had a small hobby farm where he raised beef cattle and chickens. Mykola was a faithful member of Saints Peter and Paul Ukrainian Orthodox Church. In the past, he was an Epistle Reader for the Ukrainian Liturgy.

Mykola is survived by his daughter, Anna (David) Anderson; grandchildren, Nicholas (Lindsay) of Massillon, Peter Anderson and Katherine Anderson of Salem; two great-granddaughters, Sophia and Charlotte Anderson of Massillon; son-in-law, Wayne Tiedeman of Boardman; and a sister, Olha Mihnovets of North Royalton; one niece; four nephews; and a goddaughter, Lidia Whited.

Mykola was preceded in death by his wife of 62 years, Maria; a son, David; and a daughter, Nancy (Nina) Tiedeman; and a brother, Iwan Prychodczenko.

Calling hours will be from 9:30-11:00 a.m., Saturday, April 13, 2024, at Saints Peter and Paul Ukrainian Church with a funeral service to follow at 11:00 a.m. with Father Mykola Zomchak officiating. Burial will take place at 12:30 p.m., Saturday, April 13, 2024 at Saints Peter and Paul Cemetery in Youngstown.
