Norman Bixler Obituary

Norman Lee Bixler, passed away peacefully on Thursday, April 18, 2024, at the Salem Regional Medical Center. Born on May 30, 1946, in Salem, Ohio, Norman was the beloved son of the late Philip Ray and Pauline Everson Bixler.

A proud veteran, Norman served his country with honor in the Navy during the Vietnam War. Norman was a 1964 graduate of Greenford High School.

For 32 years, Norman was a dedicated EMT and firefighter for the Greenford Volunteer Fire Department. In addition to his work with the fire department, Norman was a skilled machine operator at Crane Demming, where his work ethic and camaraderie were highly valued.

Norman's commitment to service extended beyond his professional life. He was an active member of the Salem VFW and Amvets of Salem Post 45, where he found fellowship and shared his experiences with fellow veterans. His faith was also a central part of his life, and he was a devoted member of the Greenford Christian Church, where he found strength and solace.

He is survived by his brothers, Larry Bixler of Washingtonville and Daryl (Mary Caye) Bixler of Salem. He was a cherished uncle to his nephews, Allen Bixler, Jeff (Christy) Bixler, Terry Bixler, Mark (Heather) Bixler, and Matthew (Cassie) Bixler, and he held a special place in the heart of his great-nephew, Brandon (Regan) Bixler; and great-nieces, Brittany and Tiffany Bixler. Also his special ladies, Laura Raynor and Chrissy Hollobaugh.

Norman was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Mona (Smith) Bixler, who passed away in 2015. His brother, Philip Bixler, and sister-in-law, Thelma Bixler, also preceded him in death.
