SALEM – Carl D. Simmons, age 68, died at 5:20 p.m. Saturday, April 6, 2019 at his home. He was born May 9, 1950 in Steubenville, the son of the late Harold M. and Thelma (Wilke) Simmons.
Carl was a meat cutter for 20 years for various grocery stores in the area. He was a member of the Damascus Friends Church. Carl was an assistant football coach for East Springfield High School, an avid high school football fan and especially loved watching his grandsons play. Carl loved Gospel music and going to concerts with his granddaughters. Carl was a loving husband, father and grandfather.
He is survived by his wife, Elaine F. (Westling) Simmons, whom he married October 14, 1971; two daughters, Nicole (Timothy) Ewing and Jen (Eric) Sarginger, both of Salem; one sister, Thelma J. Mills of Cleveland; one brother, Harold C. Simmons of Mingo Junction; eight grandchildren, Marshal, Christopher, Robbie, Samantha, Cody, Laci, Addyson and Greyson.
Also preceding him in death was a brother, M. Dale Simmons.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, April 11, 2019 at Damascus Friends Church, Salem Campus with Pastor Steve Lowe and Pastor Bill Westling officiating.
