Catherine "Katie" Sanor Obituary

SALEM - Catherine “Katie” Louise Sanor, age 86, died Tuesday, April 30, 2019. She was born November 19, 1932 in Salem, the daughter of the late John and Sophia (nee Arbogast) Spack.

Catherine had worked on the family farm and was a homemaker. She previously worked in the office of the billing department of Mullins of Salem. Catherine was a member of Emmanuel Lutheran Church of Salem. She was a life-long member of the Alliance of Transylvania Saxons (ATS), Salem Branch 18 where she served as president, 1st vice president, trustee, and cook for Bingo and was a member of the Retirees. Catherine also was cook for the ATS Teen Weekend for many years. She was a 65-year member of Willow Grove Grange. She was a 1950 graduate of Salem High School and enjoyed attending Alumni Breakfasts. Catherine enjoyed traveling to Florida and Germany to visit family and friends. Catherine was an avid reader of newspapers and fiction and read at least 2000 books in the last 10 years.

Her husband of 53 ½ years, Lloyd Ray Sanor whom she married November 15, 1952 at Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Salem, preceded her in death March 6, 2006.

Survivors include a son, Bruce (Peggy) Sanor of Salem; two daughters, Karen (Patrick) Long of Green and Mary (Don) Appleby of Stow; daughter-in-law: Debbie Sanor of Salem; two sisters, Helen Aeling of Minerva and Dorothy Hahn of Sebring; three sister-in-laws: Gertrude Spack, Walburga Spack of Salem and Iva Williams of East Liverpool; three brothers, George Spack, Sr. of Salem, Henry (Flo) Spack, Sr. of Salem and Paul (Ann) Spack of New Port Richey, FL; five grandchildren, Amy (Ryan) Gavlock, Zachary Long, Caitlin Long , Michael Tucker and Raymond Appleby.

Besides her parents and husband, a son, Rick Sanor; two daughters, Beverly Tucker and Darlene Sanor; four brothers, John Spack, Sr., Michael Spack, Carl Spack and

Walter Spack preceded her in death.

The family would like to thank the staff at Salem East Healthcare Center (formerly Essex III) for all their care, support, and love that they have given Catherine over the last two years.

Also, the family thanks the Salem Public Library for maintaining an awesome Large Print Fiction section.

A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, May 6, 2019 at Emmanuel Lutheran Church with Rev. Alan Smearsoll officiating. Calling hours will be held from 1:00-4:00 p.m. Sunday, May 5, 2019 at Stark Memorial and from 10:00-11:00 a.m. Monday, May 6, 2019 at the church. Burial will be held at Grandview Cemetery.
