SALEM - Edward L. Karlen, age 76, of Salem passed away Saturday, February 23, 2019 surrounded by his family. He was born June 27, 1942 in Salem, a son of the late Norman and Clara (Miller) Karlen.
Ed graduated from Goshen High School. He was in the Army Reserves and worked on the family farm, Karlen Farms. Ed enjoyed showing his dairy cattle at the Canfield Fair. He spent over 20 years driving bus for West Branch Local Schools, where he left an impact on the lives of many. Ed enjoyed bowling in the two leagues he was actively part of. He always had a story and has left behind many wonderful memories for those that knew him.
He is survived by his children: Teresa (Bob) Goode, Joanne Fiddler, Donna (Jim) Beardsley, David (Jennifer) Karlen, Dale (Karen) Karlen, his 11 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; three brothers, Harry (Naomi) Karlen, Denis (Barb) Karlen, Delmar Karlen and one sister, Linda (Ron) Bandy.
Besides his parents, he is preceded in death by his sister, Norma Smith and son-in-law Bret Fiddler.
Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, February 28, 2019 at the Bunker Hill United Methodist Church with Rev. Carol McCartney officiating. Calling hours will be held from 5:00-8:00 p.m. Wednesday at the Stark Memorial Funeral Home and Thursday from 10:00-11:00 am. at the church. Burial will be at Highland Memorial Park.
