Kathy L. Chappel

Kathy L. Chappel, 56, formerly of  Salem, passed away doing what she loved with her husband Sherman R. Laney Jr. Thursday, January 24, 2019 in Albuquerque, NM in a trucking accident. She was born September 25, 1962 in Alliance, OH, a daughter of Richard and Judith (Doolittle) Rutan.

She was a beautician and owner/operator of OPM Trucking with her husband.

She is survived by both of her parents; one son, Matt (Nancy) Willis of Sevierville, TN; one daughter, Lindsay Santee of Salem;  two step- sons, Sherman R. (Rebecca) Laney III  of Minerva and Luke Laney of Ravenna; one step- daughter, Ashlee Laney of Canton; two sisters, Christine (Alan) Hake of Austintown and Barbara (Pat) Kalima of Ravenna: one brother, Richard Rutan of Massillon; five grandchildren, Anthony Jordan, Zachary and Landyn Powell, Nevaeh Santee, and Sam Willis; and two step- grandchildren, Carter and Aiden Laney.  

She married her husband, Sherman R. Laney Jr. on January 25, 2015.

She was preceded in death by her late husband, Gary S. Chappel, whom she married February 14, 1997, and a grandson, Aiden Willis.  

Funeral services for both Kathy and Sherman will be held Saturday, February 2, 2019 at 11:00 a.m. at Stark Memorial Funeral Home & Cremation Services, 1014 E. State St., Salem. Friends and family will be received for both Kathy and Sherman on Friday, February 1, 2019 from 4:00-7:00 p.m. and Saturday from 10:00-11:00 a.m. at the funeral home.
