Kenneth L. Smith

Salem- Kenneth L. Smith, 83, died at 8:05 a.m. Friday, February 15, 2019  at St. Elizabeth Health Center in Boardman. 

Kenneth was born November 19, 1936 in Salineville, OH, the son of the late Wilbur and Mabel (Catlett) Smith.

Kenny was a veteran of the United States Army, serving primarily in the Far East. He retired as a Sergeant Major.  Kenny worked in government service for 11 years with the Ohio Bureau of Employment Services. 

He also was a member of various veterans organizations.

He is survived by his wife, the former Jeri Jackson of Salem, OH, whom he married July 2, 1982;  two children, (Kendra) Lisa (Doug) Detweiler of Easton, PA and Kevin L. (Carrie) Smith of Columbiana, OH; step-children, Cali (Bob) Shoen of White Bear Lake, MN, Cacy Miranda of Minneapolis, MN, and Deborah Hale of Boardman, OH; sister, Janis (Bill) Mundy of Lisbon, OH; and grandchildren, Halle Detweiler of Akron, OH,Alec Detweiler of Columbus,OH, Cooper Smith of Los Angeles, CA, Chloe Smith of Columbiana, OH, Matthew Miranda of Duluth, MN, Mallory Miranda Monge of St. Louis Park, MN, and Derek Hale of Canfield, OH.

Besides his parents, Kenneth was preceded in death by a step-son, Derf Capel; one sister, Elizabeth Stark; and two brothers, Donald and Wilbur "Flex" Smith.

There will be no calling hours.  Private services will be held at Arlington National Cemetery at a later date.
