PETERSBURG - Peggy Ann Kruest. age 89 of Petersburg went home to be with her Lord Friday, May 24, 2019 at Capri Health Care Center in North Lima after a very lengthy illness. She was born March 13, 1930 in Youngstown, Ohio to the late Edwin R. and Sylvia (O’Brien) Yeaton,
Peggy dedicated her life to teaching elementary school children, with a specialty in language arts. She loved her students as though they were her own children, and often did things for the children and their families outside of the classroom. She began her career at Washington Elementary School in Youngstown, then on to the Lisbon and Fremont school systems, and concluded her career with 31 years at the Reilly Elementary and Southeast Schools in Salem. She attended Youngstown College, received a MS Degree in Education in 1952 at Allegheny College and the BS in Education in 1978 from Youngstown State University.
She attended the First Baptist Church in Alliance and the Petersburg Presbyterian Church.
She loved sewing, cooking, gardening and traveling all over the US in search of antiques, especially glassware, lamps, and primitives. She was an avid reader with great interest in holistic medicine and natural living.
Peggy was very fortunate to have cultivated a deep affection and companionship in her later years with a longtime friend, Robert Mentzer of Petersburg. She and Bob shared many of the same interests; a love of gardening, reading, antiques and intellect, but most of all they really enjoyed each other’s company. Peggy was welcomed into the family and deeply loved by Bob’s children, Beth (John) Siwiec of Boardman, Becky Himes of Petersburg, and Bill (Janel) Mentzer of Canfield.
Peggy leaves behind a brother, William T. (Hilda) Yeaton of Ellicott City, Maryland, and two sisters, Elizabeth “Betty” (Paul) Myers of Sarasota FL, and Mary (Michael) Staffrey of Youngstown, as well as many nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Paul R Kruest, a brother, Charles E. Yeaton II, and nephew, Charles E. Yeaton III.
A memorial service will be held at a later date at the Petersburg Presbyterian Church. A private burial will be held at Belmont Park Cemetery in Youngtown.
Peggy’s siblings, Mary, Bill and Betty would like to publicly express our sincere appreciation and gratitude to Bob and his family; especially to Beth, Becky and Janel, for taking such good care of Peggy these last few years. The sacrifice of your time, and the extraordinary care you showed her is so much an affirmation of the love that you had for her, and that she felt. Thank you all.
Arrangements were handled by Stark Memorial Funeral Home and Cremation Services.
