SALEM - Allen Wayne “Butch” Everson, a man whose life was marked by the roar of engines and the spirit of service, passed away peacefully, with his daughters at his side, on Monday, October 28, 2024, at Windsor House of Canfield.
Born on September 14, 1942, in Akron, Ohio, to Delbert Franklin and Ruth Catherine (Hoerger) Everson, Butch was a man who lived his 82 years with passion and dedication. From a young age, Butch was drawn to the world of trucking, embarking on a lifelong career behind the wheel at the tender age of 14. His love for the open road was matched only by his love for cars, a passion that was evident to all who knew him. Butch was a proud member of a car club, a group of childhood friends who shared his enthusiasm for automobiles. Among his treasured possessions was his 2007 Shelby Cobra replica, a nod to the classic 1965 Cobra, which could reach 120 mph in second gear. This car was more than a vehicle to Butch; it was his pride and joy, a symbol of his lifelong love affair with speed and power.
Butch's commitment to his community was unwavering, he was proud to be one of the first to respond to the tragedy in New York. As one of the first responders, Allen was among those who brought in cranes to move debris at Ground Zero, playing a crucial role in the rescue efforts.
Beyond the thrill of racing and the call to service, Allen found simple pleasures in life, such as his fondness for root beer ice cream and Sailor Jerry’s Rum and Coke. It was a small reminder that amidst his adventurous and heroic endeavors, he appreciated the sweeter, quieter moments life had to offer. He and his wife, Jan, also enjoyed taking cruises together.
Left to cherish his memory are his children, Troyann (Maurice), Valerie (Charles), Mark, Chrissy (Frank) and Tina; grandchildren, Adrien (Natasha), Ezekiel (Cynthia), Emily, Lindsey, Craig, Brandon, Joshua, Nathan and Cade; and 15 great-grandchildren.
Butch was preceded in death by his loving parents, Ruth and Delbert Everson; brother, Gerald “Cricket” Everson; wife, Janice Everson; and stepson, Bill Hurford.
Friends and family are invited to gather and share memories of Butch from 11:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m., Thursday, October 31, 2024, at Stark Memorial Funeral. A service to honor his remarkable life will follow at 1:30 p.m. and he will be laid to rest at Grandview Cemetery in Sebring.
