SALEM – Bernard “Bernie” Collins, 90, passed away Tuesday, May 14, 2024, at Blossom Nursing Center.
He was born on April 27, 1934, in Punxsutawney, Pa. and graduated from Punxsutawney High School in 1953. Prior to moving to Salem in 1960, Bernie served in the U.S. Navy for four years.
Bernie worked as a salesman for Nabisco for 30 years. He was a lifetime member of the Salem VFW, UCT, and was a lifetime member of the Salem Italian American Club. In his free time he enjoyed playing golf and bowling.
Left to cherish his memory is his wife, the former Barbara Sokloski, whom he married on October 25, 1958; as well as his children, Lisa (Donnie) Johnson and Patrick (Amelia) Collins; daughter-in-law, Anne Collins; grandchildren, Matthew, Eric (Jenny), Ellie and Olivia; and sister-in-law, Joan Sokloski.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Margarite Collins; son, Dr. Gary Collins; infant daughter, Mary Collins; and sister, Bridget Harriger.
Visitation will be from 9:30-10:30 a.m., Monday, May 20, 2024, at Stark Memorial Funeral Home. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 11:00 a.m. at St. Paul Catholic Church with Father Joseph Ruggieri officiating. Burial will be at Grandview Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions can be made to St. Paul Catholic Church or Our Lady’s Purse.
