Carmela (Salvino) Citino

Carmela Citino of Salem, OH, born February 9, 1934, in Rogliano, Cosenza, Italy, passed away while surrounded by her daughters on February 16, 2026.

Carmela was known to many as “mama.” She was mother to not only her family, but anyone she came in contact with. She was the daughter of Salvatore and Giovanna Maria (Citino) Salvino.

Carmela was a Licensed Practical Nurse for 26 years and worked at the Essex Nursing Home in Salem. Carmela was a member of St. Paul Catholic Church.

Survivors include her three daughters. Dr. Anna Maria Citino (Matthew Long) of Salem, Nella Gilda Citino (Ray Ibsen) of Columbus, and Linda Carol Citino Carmichael (John Carmichael) of Columbus. She is also survived by her sister, Nella (Salvino) Altomare of Cosenza, Italy, and Mario Salvino of Salem; seven grandchildren, Zachary Long, Alex Long Salley, Drake Long, Brianna Long, Elisa Ibsen, Sophia Carmichael, and JJ Carmichael, and many nieces and nephews in Salem, Ohio, and Italy.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Archie Citino, whom she married October 2, 1958. She is also preceded in death by three brothers, Guiseppe Salvino, Michele Salvino, and Fausto Salvino, who resided in Rogliano, Cosenza, Italy.

A private family service will be held at Stark Memorial on Monday, February 23, 2025. Interment will be at Grandview Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to St. Paul Catholic Church, 935 E. State Street, Salem, OH 44460.
