Cathy L. Markovich

Cathy L. Markovich, a cherished wife, mother, sister, and friend, passed away peacefully on Monday, April 29, 2024, at Salem Regional Medical Center in Salem, at the age of 68. Born on January 14, 1956, in New Brighton, Pa., she was the loving daughter of the late Robert and Wilda (Megill) Berchtold.

She was a 1974 graduate of New Brighton High School. Her commitment to her family was unwavering, and she found great joy in the simple pleasures of life. Cathy's love for her husband was evident in the countless festivals and garage sales they attended together, and the cherished summer trips to North Carolina to visit their daughter were highlights of her year.

Cathy was a devoted mother who enjoyed attending sporting events and exploring new restaurants with her son. Her passion for scrapbooking allowed her to beautifully preserve the memories she held dear, and her thoughtfulness shone through in the cards she sent for every occasion. Cathy's intelligence and wit were on full display during her favorite show, "Jeopardy," where she enthusiastically participated in the daily trivia on her desktop calendar, proudly keeping track of her "winnings."

She leaves behind her beloved husband of 42 years, Lou Markovich, whom she married on October 17, 1981. Her legacy continues through her children, Brian (Sharronda) Markovich and Abby (Roderick) Williams, who will forever cherish the love and lessons she imparted. Cathy's siblings, Christy (Larry) Linke, Clint (Dee) Berchtold, and Connie Berchtold, along with her brothers-in-law, Rudy Markovich and David Markovich; and sister-in-law, Donna Markovich will miss her dearly. She also leaves behind numerous nieces and nephews.

Cathy's life will be celebrated by friends and family who will gather to honor her memory at Stark Memorial Funeral Home on Friday, May 3, 2024, from 5:00- 7:00 p.m. A Mass will be held the following morning at St. Paul Catholic Church at 10:00 a.m. She will be laid to rest at Grandview Cemetery in Salem.
