SALEM – Charles E. Slavens, age 95, died at 8:30 p.m. Tuesday, March 12, 2019 at the Salem North Healthcare Center. He was born November 23, 1923 in Struthers the son of the late Michael and Helen (Condrick) Slavkosky. Charles was a supervisor with Conrail Corporation and retired in 1988 with 46 years of service.
He was a member of St. Paul Catholic Church, the Knights of Columbus#1818, the Salem V. F.W. Post 892 and the Youngstown Traffic Club.
Charles served in the U. S. Army during World War II, receiving the EAME Theater Ribbon and American Theater Ribbon.
His wife, E. June (Wardeska) Slavens, whom he married October 17, 1953 preceded him in death on November 10, 2008.
Survivors include a son, Robert M. (Michelle) Slavens of Westerville; two daughters, Cynthia L. Slavens of Salem and Theresa A. (Nicholas) Cool of Salem; six grandchildren and three great grandchildren.
A sister, Helen Olenik and two brothers, Joseph and Michael Slavens also preceded him in death.
Funeral services will be held at 7:00 p.m. Sunday, March 17, 2019 at Stark Memorial Funeral Home & Cremation Services with Father Robert Edwards officiating. Calling hours will be held Sunday from 6:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Burial will be at Grandview Cemetery.
