Charlotte "Charlie" Travis Obituary

Charlotte A. Travis, known affectionately as Charlie, passed away peacefully in her sleep on June 14, 2024, at the age of 77. Born on February 26, 1947, in Webster Springs, West Virginia, she was the daughter of the late Maynard E. and Virginia Kerr Hamrick. Her final days were spent in Salem.

Charlie's artistic spirit was evident from a young age, and she channeled that creativity into a successful career as an artist. Her talent was recognized internationally, with her artwork displayed in museums and featured in magazines around the world. She also had a flair for jewelry making, and her exquisite pieces were sold internationally. Her journey took her to live in various beautiful places, including Hawaii, Georgia, Florida, Tennessee, Kentucky, North Carolina, and South Carolina, among others.

Travel and exploration were central to Charlie's life. She relished the opportunity to discover new places, often accompanied by her beloved husband and family. Her love for visiting art museums was only matched by her passion for antiquing, where she found treasures that inspired her work and personal style.

She leaves behind a legacy of love and cherished memories with her husband, Roger Travis, her son, Casey McCary, and her daughter, Season McCary, and also Carri (Russell) Williams and Candi Travis. Several grandchildren will also hold dear the memory of her vibrant spirit. Her sisters, Carol Wilhelm and Donna (Tom) Drake, along with many nieces and nephews, will miss her dearly.

Charlie was preceded in death by her son, Garland McCary III, her brother, Edward McGinnis, and her sister, Susan Brooks.

A celebration of Charlie's life will be held at a later date, where friends and family can gather to honor her memory and the indelible mark she left on the world. The arrangements for this gathering of love and remembrance are being handled by Stark Memorial Funeral Home and Cremation Services.
