Cheryl Horne Obituary

Youngstown- Cheryl Marie Horne passed away peacefully, with her family by her side, on Tuesday, February 24, 2026, after a long and fiercely fought illness. Cheryl was born January 7, 1968 to Joseph and Dolores Horne.  A Youngstown native, Cheryl graduated from Chaney High School in 1986. Her love of people led her to work in the food service industry as a waitress and bartender, most recently at the Pour House in Canfield. Cheryl was loved by all who met her, and she loved them in kind. Co-workers and regulars, her neighbors, friends, and family- especially her mother Dee, her brother Bryan, sister-in- law Holly, and niece Ella-, and her partner Adam, as well as his family, all held her in the highest regard. Almost 20 years ago, Cheryl met Adam, a neighbor, and the two quickly found a deep love and connection with each other. Two years later, they moved in together and began a journey that would last the rest of her days. Together, they shared the many joys and sorrows of life, always at each other’s side. Cheryl enjoyed traveling with Adam, going to concerts with friends, playing in her bocce league, hanging around the fire or pool with the neighbors, sitting around a table playing games, snuggling with her beloved step-dog Bettis, celebrating with her family and watching them grow, shopping with the girls, and taking walks through the neighborhood or park.

When she fell ill six years ago, Cheryl faced the battle head-on with determination and courage, and with a lot of love and support behind her. During this time, not only did she continue to work and live her life the way she wanted, but she also became a very proficient drummer. She, along with Adam (neither of whom had ever played an instrument, and with the help of a musician neighbor) learned the drums and bass guitar, respectively. Cheryl had a natural talent for the drums, and together they formed a neighborhood band ‘Waltzing Matilda’, even playing a live gig once - to rave reviews!

She was quite a woman. Even in sickness, she found joy and peace where there didn’t appear to be much of either. She found humor when despair gripped those around her, and she revealed an inner strength that surprised even those who knew her best. Although Cheryl’s time here with us was cut short, it should always be said of her that she lived a full life - one filled with friends, family, and love. The memories made with her will be carried close long after these days have passed. She has earned her rest and will be forever loved and missed.

She was preceded in death by her father, Joe, and aunts Bernadette Melnick and Donna Evans. Along with those mentioned, she is survived by her aunt Phyllis Popovich, with whom she shared a special bond, as well as several cousins, and too many friends to name. Cheryl’s earthly remains will be cremated - in a private ceremony - early Tuesday, March 10, 2026. A celebration of her life, where all who knew and loved her are welcome to join, will take place at a time/date/location that will soon be announced.

If so inclined, gifts or donations can be directed towards a worthy cause of your choice.
