SALEM - Cindy J. O'Brian, a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and dedicated educator, passed away peacefully at the age of 70 on September 10, 2024, at Hospice House.
Born in Salem, Ohio, on January 4, 1954, Cindy was the daughter of Doris (Waithman) Kersmarki and the late Karl Kersmarki.
Cindy was a 1972 graduate of Salem High School. Her passion for learning and helping others led her to Youngstown State University, where she earned her master’s degree. She found joy and fulfillment in teaching, and for 22 years, she was a much-admired teacher in the Salem City School District, leaving a lasting impact on the many lives she touched.
Cindy married Joseph “Doug” O’Brian on July 27, 1974, and together they shared many adventures and the joys of raising a family. Cooking and travel were among Cindy’s favorite pastimes, as well as spending time with her grandchildren. She was also a member of St. Paul Catholic Church in Salem.
Cindy's legacy continues through her devoted husband, Doug; sons, Michael (Diane) O'Brian and Matthew (fiancée Annie Knight) O'Brian; four adoring grandchildren, Audrey, Ellery, Avery, and Tyler; mother, Doris; brother, Bob (Cheryl) Kersmarki; and sister, Terri Fitch.
Friends and family are invited to gather in remembrance of Cindy's life from 10:00 a.m.-Noon, Saturday, September 14, 2024, at Stark Memorial Funeral Home. A service will immediately follow at Noon with Father Robert Edwards.
