SALEM — Daryal Lewis Emelo, 75, of Salem, Ohio, passed away on Saturday, March 15, 2025, at his home.
Born on June 20, 1949, in Salem, Daryal was the son of the late John and Donna (Brown) Emelo. He was a dedicated member of the United States Navy, serving from 1968 to 1974. During his time in the Navy, he spent three years aboard the USS LaSalle (LPD 3) and 3 years with Beach Master Unit 2, with service in the Mid and North Atlantic, the Caribbean Sea, and one year in South America.
Daryal’s commitment to service extended beyond his military career. He was a lifelong member of AMVETS Post 45, where he served as past commander, as well as commander of American Legion Post 56. He was also a past Drill Sergeant of the Salem Drill Team and a member of the Salem Honor Guard since 2009. His work ethic and craftsmanship were reflected in his career as a self-employed carpenter, working alongside his twin brother through their business, Twins With Tools.
A member of the First Christian Church in Salem, Daryal’s dedication to his community and country remained unwavering throughout his life.
He is survived by his twin brother, Caryal Emelo. He was preceded in death by his sister, Deborah Emelo (Jackson, Bowman).
Daryal will be remembered for his service, his dedication to his work, and his strong ties to his community.
A funeral will be held at Stark Memorial Funeral Home on Wednesday, March 19, 2025 at 1:00 p.m. with visitation one hour prior. He will be laid to rest at Highland Memorial Park.
