David Eugene Daley, aged 75, passed away peacefully with his beloved wife by his side on Thursday, January 18, 2024, at Salem Regional Medical Center in Salem, Ohio, following an extended illness.
Born on January 21, 1948, in Pittsfield, Massachusetts, he was the son of the late Nelson and Barbara (Wood) Daley. David's life was marked by his dedication to his family, his service to his country, and his passion for adventure.
David grew up in a lively household and attended Greenford High School, graduating with the class of 1966. Shortly thereafter, he answered the call of duty and served six years in the United States Air Force as a load master during the Vietnam War. His time in the military instilled in him a sense of discipline and pride that he carried throughout his life.
After his honorable discharge, David pursued further education at Kent State University, Salem Branch, where he earned an associate degree in business. He began his civilian career as a machinist at Crane Deming and through his hard work and dedication, rose to the position of Production Supervisor. David retired after over 30 years of service.
His mechanical skills were put to good use as he enjoyed working on cars, a pastime that allowed him to tinker and innovate, and he enjoyed fishing. Perhaps his greatest joy was traveling across the United States with his wife in their motorhome, exploring the vast landscapes and making memories that would last a lifetime.
David's journey through life was shared with his loving wife of 29 years, Dorothy (Kuhn) Daley. Together, they blended a family that included step-children, Michael and Matthew Rice. He was a cherished grandfather to Daimion, Robert, Victoria, Orion, Roman, Emily, and Christopher, and delighted in the role of great-grandfather to five great-grandchildren.
He is survived by his devoted siblings, Barb (Dean) Scharver, Kathy (David) Freeland, Debra Daley, Melissa Ault, and Scott (Stephanie) Daley. David was preceded in death by his brother, Kevin Daley, whose memory he held close to his heart.
A celebration of David's life will be held privately by his family, honoring his wishes for a personal and intimate gathering. David Eugene Daley's legacy will continue to live on through the stories shared, the lessons taught, and the love he gave freely. His was a life well-lived, and he will be remembered with affection and respect by all who were fortunate enough to know him.
