In memory of David A. Dunbar. We are celebrating the life of son, brother, uncle, veteran, and adventure-seeker David Allen Dunbar, who was born on November 16, 1943, and passed away on June 20, 2024, with loving family by his side.
David was born in Potsdam, New York as the oldest of four children. The Dunbars moved several times in David’s youth and finally settled in Columbiana, Ohio, where he graduated from high school in 1962.
After high school, David worked at Youngstown Sheet and Tube, prior to entering the U.S. Air Force, earning certifications in Electrical Communication and serving our country during the Vietnam War.
Thereafter, David moved to California, where he would work for RCA, and also where his iconic beard began, as he declined to shave in an effort to do his part to conserve water during drought season. Later, he moved to Houston, Texas, near his brother, John, working the remainder of his career as a Senior CNC Maintenance Technician for Baker Hughes.
David loved to return to Columbiana to visit his family and enjoyed catching up with his Clippers classmates at high school reunions. Always a bachelor but never a bore, David enjoyed country western dancing, reading various technical and historical books, taking day trips and vacations with his sister, Anna, and her children, and entertaining us with stories we can’t repeat here. He was a sweetheart; dogs loved him, and he loved them.
Later in his life, he lived with his sister, Anna, and enjoyed visits and care from nieces, Tracy and BetsyAnn; and his nephew, Edward, with whom he took many adventures and had a special bond. He was predeceased by his parents, Dick and Mary Ethel Dunbar, and is survived by brother, John Dunbar (Emily), and sister, Anna Wrask and her children. David will be remembered for his smile, laugh, wit, good spirit, and sayings that we’ll hold onto forever. Uncle Dave, you are resting at peace, and that sounds like a winner. We love you.
