CANFIELD - Our beloved father/grandfather/great-grandfather, David Wilson Dyer passed away Monday, June 3, 2024 at the age of 90.
He was born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. At the age of 16, he purchased his first airplane, a Luscombe where he discovered his passion for flying. Following graduation from Boardman High School, he completed Air Force Pilot Training with the Ohio Air National Guard. Afterwards, at the age of 22 he was hired on with United Airlines and had a distinguished 38-year career as a pilot. He had the luxury of starting and ending his career flying the longest flight routes United had at the time.
He met his wife, Gertrude Ann Dyer, of 65 years in New York City where she flew as a TWA stewardess. He was a loving father who helped raise three children with Ann. For many years, Ann and David operated a Scottish import business. In his spare time, he enjoyed skiing, sailing, gardening, ballroom and Scottish country dancing, and mowing the fields in Canfield.
He is preceded in death by his parents, David E. and Jessie B. Dyer, and his wife, Ann Dyer. He is survived by his three children, Deborah (Kenneth) Robison, of Fairfax Station, Virginia, Diana (Steven) Johnson, of Canfield, Ohio, and David Dyer, of Kansas City, Missouri; and six grandchildren, Jessica (Rens) Jonker, of Bonaire, Dutch Caribbean, Matthew (Rachel) Johnson, of Sterling, Virginia, Robert Johnson, of Denver, Colorado, Lindsey (Jarrett) Gottardy, of Frisco, Texas, Cate (Ty) Isern, of Topeka, Kansas, Hannah Dyer, of Leawood, Kansasl and seven great grandchildren, Cole Dyer-Delp, Dax and Oliver Jonker, Miles Gottardy, James Isern, Landon Gottardy, and Mason Isern. He is also survived by a brother, Jack R. Dyer, of Hoschton, Georgia, and several cousins, nieces and nephews.
There will be a visitation at 11:00 a.m. followed by a memorial service at Noon on Friday, June 7, 2024, at Canfield United Methodist Church in Canfield, Ohio. Interment will follow at Green Haven Memorial Gardens in Canfield, Ohio.
