David Emanuel Herron

SALEM – David Emanuel Herron, 73, passed away suddenly Monday, October 19, 2020. He was born September 10, 1947 in Salem, son of the late Carl E. and Hazel (John) Herron.

David was a 1965 graduate of United Local and attended The Ohio State University for dairy management. He worked on the family dairy farm, Cold Run Jersey’s and loved his time in the field. David was a member of the Winona United Methodist Church, a former board member of Soil and Water Conservation, lifetime member of the American Jersey Cattle Assoc., Ohio Jersey Breeders Assoc., Ohio Farm Bureau and former board member of DHI Cooperative.

Farming was his true joy as well as spending time with the family, especially the grandchildren.

He had a special passion for the Jersey cow, carried on from his father’s legacy and is now being carried on by his son. David’s herd, Cold Run Jersey’s is one of the top herds in the nation for production.

When he could break away from the farm, he enjoyed traveling and fishing on the family pond. David would stop what he was doing to lend a helping hand whenever needed.

Survivors include his wife, Julia (Baker) Herron whom he married July 14, 1979 of Salem; three children, Rebecca Jean (Bryan Walter) Holmes of Hanoverton, James Emanuel (Tara Nicole) Herron of Salem and Jennifer Noel (Jason Scott) Young of Salem; sister, Linda Archer of Malvern; brother Glen Herron of Salem; and eight grandchildren, Kylie E. Holmes, Ruby S. Herron, Maxwell D. Holmes, Pearl J. Herron, Elizabeth A. Young, Rose M. Herron, Christian S. Young and Evelyn G. Young.

Besides his parents, a daughter, Elizabeth Ann Herron and brother, Wayne L. Herron also preceded him in death.

A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, October 23, 2020 at Winona United Methodist Church with Pastor Tom Scott officiating

Calling hours will be held from 4:00-8:00 p.m. Thursday, October 22, 2020 at Stark Memorial and 10:00-11:00 a.m. Friday at the Church prior to the service. Burial will be held at Woodsdale Cemetery.
