Salem- David Philip Schuster, passed away peacefully on January 20, 2024, at St. Elizabeth's in Youngstown, Ohio. Born on August 26, 1943, in Salem, Ohio, David's life was a testament to the joy of simple pleasures and the enduring strength of family bonds.
David was a proud 1961 graduate of Salem High School, where he formed friendships and memories that lasted a lifetime. After graduation, he dedicated many years of hard work as a laborer at American Standard, where he was known for his reliability and strong work ethic.
David's love for his hometown was evident in his unwavering support for the Salem Quakers. He could be found in the stands during every sports season, cheering with vigor and unwavering loyalty. His enthusiasm for the game was infectious, and he was a beloved figure at many a sporting event.
An avid golfer, David found great joy in spending sunny afternoons on the green. His love for the sport was only matched by his love for good food and company. Many knew him as a regular at his favorite restaurants, where he cherished the time spent with friends and family over a hearty meal.
Above all, David's greatest pride and joy were his children and grandchildren. He took every opportunity to spend time with them, creating lasting memories and imparting wisdom. His presence at family gatherings was a source of happiness and comfort, and his stories and laughter will be deeply missed.
David is survived by a loving and extensive family. His brother, Gary (Betsy) Schuster; sisters, Gayle (Merv) Hilliard and Sharon Faulkner; sons, David Schuster and Troy (Cheresa) Schuster; daughters, Sarah (Jermaine) Ebert, Tracie (Michael) Ward, Danielle Bednar-Thake, and Erine (Richard) Sallaz; and his ex-wife, Christine Schuster, will all hold his memory dear. He was a cherished grandfather to Corey (Tiffany) Ward, Alexis (Nathan) Ward, Sydney Ward, Kayla Bednar, Cameron Thake , Jordan Sallaz, Haley Sallaz, Logan Sallaz, Mark Barnhouse Jr., Kyler Stroup, Jermaine Ebert Jr., Devin Ebert, and Tessa Schuster, and a proud great-grandfather to Stella Ward.
David was preceded in death by his son, Christopher Schuster; parents, Gustave and Sarah Schuster; sister, Patricia Schuster; and brother, William Schuster. Each of them held a special place in his heart, and he carried their memories with him throughout his life.
David's legacy is one of love, laughter, and the importance of family. His gentle spirit and kind heart touched the lives of all who knew him. As we say goodbye to David Philip Schuster, we celebrate a life well-lived and a man well-loved. His memory will continue to inspire and guide us, and he will be forever remembered as a pillar of strength, a beacon of joy, and a beloved father, grandfather, brother, and friend.
