David L. Sprouse

David Lee Sprouse (N8GOB), born September 8, 1942, (82) passed away in the early morning hours of Friday, December 13, 2024, at Altercare of Cuyahoga Falls after a brief battle with cancer. His daughter, Cassandra, and her husband Kevin Merolla were by his side.

He was preceeded in death by his mother. Carol (Weingart) Erb; stepfather, John Erb; father, Fred Sprouse; half-brothers, Rick and Ron McGaffick; and his wife of 56 years, Margaret. He leaves to mourn his passing his wife’s family in Salem, Ohio and Manassas, Virginia, his son-in-law’s family in Akron, his half-brother, Fred’s family in California, most of the amateur radio community in Columbiana County, his beloved cat, Miss Kitty, and many other friends and acquaintances.

Dave was born and raised in the Salem area and chose to spend his life there. He graduated from West Branch High School in 1962. He then met and married his sweetheart and love of his life, Margaret, at a dance hall in Salem. They were engaged after six months of dating and married on October 25, 1964. They were together for 56 years until her passing in 2020 and had one child after 13 yrs of marriage.

“Sprousey,” as Margaret often called him, worked for the Crane Deming Pump Company for 32 years, retiring in 2001. He was also very civic-minded, and loved attending events in town.  He was an active member of the Salem Area Amateur Radio Association, serving in many different positions with the organization throughout his life. He was a member of Skywarn, assisting during weather emergencies. He was a proud blood donor, reaching the milestone of 18 gallons donated. He loved attending truck and tractor pulls, and loved going to the Columbiana County Fair.

Family will receive guests at Stark Memorial Funeral Home from Noon-2:00 p.m., Tuesday, December 17, 2024. A funeral service will begin at 2:00 p.m. and burial will follow with a procession from the funeral home to Woodsdale Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, Dave requested that donations be made to the Lisbon Area Amateur Radio Club.
