SALEM - David Scott Halverstadt, 66, passed away on February 5, 2026, at Salem West Health Care Center.

Born on August 16, 1959 in Salem, Ohio, David was the son of the late Roderick and Irene (Hall) Halverstadt.

From a young age, David exhibited a remarkable work ethic, embracing every opportunity to work with vigor and determination. In his youth, he had a passion for the outdoors, and enjoyed hunting, fishing, and trapping. His mornings often started early, checking the traps before school, and later selling the pelts. Throughout his teenage years, many Salem residents may remember David delivering their newspaper on his unicycle!

He seized the opportunity offered by Salem High School's vocational program and poured his dedication into the Tool & Die program, graduating with the Class of 1977. His commitment to his craft was unwavering, as evidenced by his rapid completion of the Journeyman Tool and Die Apprenticeship while at Quaker Manufacturing. David's exceptional work earned him his certification ahead of time, a testament to his diligence and extra hours spent honing his skills.

David's career took him to California, where he accepted a position with McDonnell Douglas Aircraft. Returning to Ohio, David's blossoming and bright career was cut short due to a chronic illness. Despite the challenges he faced, he often expressed a heartfelt yearning for the work he so dearly missed.

David was a loving son, brother, and uncle. He took a sincere interest in the lives of his family members, always eager to hear the latest news and to see photographs of their experiences and achievements. His kindness and generosity were boundless, as he continually sought to share all he had with his family, friends, and caregivers. David's big heart will be missed by many.

Though his journey was not without its trials, David faced each day with a resilience that inspired those around him.

David leaves to carry on his memory, his siblings, Marsha (Tim) Berger of Salem, Cheryl Dailey of Salem, Charles (Lynne) Halverstadt of Rock Cave, WV; aunts, Carol Hall Cox of Poland and Francine Hall of Salem; four nieces; six nephews; and many great-nieces, great-nephews, and cousins.

In addition to his parents, David was preceded in death by an infant brother, Paul Everett Halverstadt; and grandparents, Emerson Wesley and Ann Pauline (Brown) Halverstadt of Leetonia, and L. Everett and Hazel Mae (Kennedy) Hall of Salem; as well as many aunts and uncles.

Family and friends are invited to a time of celebration to honor David from 2-3:30 p.m., Saturday, March 28, 2026, at Stark Memorial Funeral Home, 1014 E. State St., Salem, followed by a memorial service at 3:30 p.m. Interment will be at Hope Cemetery.

The family would like to express their appreciation and thank Dr. James Demidovich and the entire staff at Salem West for the wonderful care they provided to David and including him as part of their family.
