YOUNGSTOWN- Deborah Jane Mackey, 75, a cherished mother, sister, grandmother, and friend, passed away peacefully on January 26, 2024, at St. Elizabeth’s-Youngstown. She was born in Warren, on December 16, 1948, to the late Harry Wayne and Sarah Stella Tufaro Gibson.
Deborah grew up in Warren and was a proud graduate of Harding High School. After dealing with illness in her early life, she developed a passion for helping others. This passion led her to pursue a career in nursing. She earned her degree as a Licensed Practical Nurse from the Choffin Career and Technical Center in Youngstown. For 31 years, Deborah dedicated her life to providing compassionate care to the patients at Salem Community Hospital, leaving a legacy of kindness and professionalism that will long be remembered by her colleagues and those she served.
Family was the cornerstone of Deborah's life. She is survived by her loving children, Eric (Juanita) Mackey of Colorado Springs, and Ryan Mackey, of Canfield. Her joy was multiplied with the birth of her grandson, Seth, who brought endless happiness to her days. Deborah was the caring sister to Dick Gibson, Gary Gibson, Jimmy (Tina) Gibson, Kathy Barbour, and Susan (Tom) Quinn. Her laughter and love filled their lives with countless cherished memories. She was preceded in death by her siblings, Patty Stein, Margie Chalker and David Gibson, who are now reunited with her in eternal peace.
Deborah was an avid gardener and had a love for beautiful flowers, especially daffodils, tulips and hostas. Fishing was another pastime she enjoyed, often basking in the serenity of nature while waiting for a catch. Her role as a provider for her family was one, she undertook with great pride and devotion, always ensuring that her loved ones were cared for and supported.
In her quiet moments, Deborah loved to explore new music and movies on her iPad, always keen to discover the latest gems. Freddie Mercury and Elvis Presley were two of her favorite musicians. She also found relaxation and joy in adult coloring books. She will be dearly missed, but always remembered.
