Dixie Lu Gordon

The family of Dixie Lu Gordon (nee Hall), age 95 of Salem Ohio, sadly shares her passing on May 22, 2026, at Auburn Skilled Nursing and Rehab, where she received much love and compassionate care in her last months.

The youngest of six siblings, she was born April 24, 1931, in Rogers, Ohio, the daughter of the late Frank and Maine (Green) Hall.

She graduated from New Waterford High School in 1949, after which she worked in Salem, one year for Attorney Jay Hunston Law Office and then several years for Gonda Engineering. She later enjoyed working as the rental ‘TV Lady’ at both Salem City Hospital and Central Clinic.

Dixie was a member of the Salem First Methodist Church, a 75-year member of the Eastern Star in East Palestine, and served as a Brownie, Girl and Cub Scout leader for her children.

She dedicated nearly 30 years as a volunteer with the Salem Historical Society, managing the Bookstore and Gift Shop and serving on the Board as correspondence secretary.

She was regarded as the ‘go-to’ family historian, loved journaling, and compiled extensive albums with decades of letters and photos along with generations of family memorabilia.

Survivors include her daughter, Denise L. Scheibal of St. Louis Missouri; her son, Mark T. Gordon of Rogers and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband of 63 years, Dean E. Gordon, whom she married March 17, 1951, until his death Nov. 24, 2014; siblings Franklin Hall, John C Hall, Roger Hall, Robert W. Hall, Vivian Weigand, and son-in-law, Lenn J Scheibal.

Dixie and Dean Gordon, inseparable for 63 years, enjoyed family vacations, hosting Christmas parties, making frequent trips to Colonial Williamsburg and participating in many Historical Society events.

Calling hours will be held 1:00-2:00 p.m. Friday, May 29, 2026, at Stark Memorial Funeral Home with funeral service to follow at 2:00 p.m. A private burial will be at Grandview Cemetery.

She will be remembered at a later date with a Celebration of Life.

Memorial contributions may be made to The Salem Historical Society or The Columbiana County Humane Society in honor of her cat, Smoky, whom she dearly loved.
