Dolly McEldowney was a woman of remarkable constitution—a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother whose strength was matched only by the depth of her love. She moved through the world with purpose and a warrior’s heart, grounded by her roots yet guided by a spirit that was endlessly curious and beautifully global.

Her love of travel carried her across the green landscapes of Ireland and into the misty Highlands of Scotland, where the land seemed to speak to her soul. Another one of her adventures was when she sailed down the Rhine River on a cruise; all these trips were gifted by her granddaughter, Tomica—and on all their journeys she embraced wonder, gratitude, and the joy of discovering another new horizon.

At home, Dolly’s strength was sanctuary. She created a life of unwavering love for her daughter, Gina, ensuring she was always cared for and cherished. Her compassion extended far beyond her family; Dolly was a fierce advocate for the rights and dignity of people with intellectual disabilities. She stood up for those who needed a voice and encouraged others to build a world rooted in respect and humanity.

Of course, Dolly’s life wasn’t all serious. She found sunshine and serenity during their annual trips to Arizona with Will and Gina, where serenity and warmth were always in abundance. And while she was a force of nature in many ways, she was famously “retired” from the kitchen. Cooking simply wasn’t her calling—a fact Will embraced as he took on chef duties or, more often, whisked them all off to their favorite local restaurant spots.  She was known for her spiciness; she never backed down from a fight, but once on her good side, you were well loved.

Dolly loved a journey—especially those that carried her across the “pond” and into new worlds. She leaves behind a legacy of courage, compassion, and adventure. She taught us that a strong heart can change the world, one trip, one stand for justice, and one act of love at a time.

Dolores McEldowney, age 84, was called home on Wednesday, March 4, 2026, surrounded by loving family.

She was born on March 15, 1941, to James Furry and Dolores Arndt at home in Akron, Ohio.

She is survived by her loving daughter, Regina L. McEldowney and daughter Monica J. (Ed) O’Neill; grandchildren, Tomica Beauchene, Michael (Matt) Beauchene and Brandon Beauchene; sister, Anna Munholand; brother, Timothy (Marie) Furry; sister-in-law, Cara McEldowney, June Wagner, Susan Postiy, Bernadine Bowser and Alanna Humphrey; and several nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by her husband of 49 years, Willie; parents; brother, Harold Furry; brothers-in-law, Wendell McEldowney, Jim Munholand; great-grandson, Asheton Beauchene, and sisters-in-law, Nancy Wright, Dixie Courtney.

She was a 1959 graduate of Central Catholic High School. Dolly was employed at Lamborn Floral Company for over 20 years, then self-employed as a realtor since 1990.

The family of Dolly McEldowney wishes to express their heartfelt gratitude for the love, prayers, and support shown during this time of loss. Your presence, kindness, and shared memories bring comfort as we celebrate the life of a remarkable woman whose spirit touched so many.

Calling hours for Dolly will be held from 12:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. on Monday, March 9, 2026, at Stark Memorial Funeral Home, located at 1014 E State St, Salem, Ohio. A funeral service in honor of Dolly will be held immediately after at 2:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
