Dominic "Dom" Tomaino Obituary

COLUMBIANA - Dominic "Dom" Tomaino, a beloved son, brother, grandson, and friend passed away unexpectedly Wednesday evening May 22, 2024, at the age of 16. Dominic was born on November 13, 2007, in Youngstown, Ohio, to proud parents John Tomaino Jr. and Jennifer L. (Tablack) Tomaino.

Growing up in Columbiana, Dom was enveloped in a warm and loving family environment. He was a cherished brother to John Tomaino III and Matthew Tomaino. His grandparents, John "Jack" Tomaino Sr., and Sam and Fran Tablack, doted on him, as did his late grandmother, Karen E. Tomaino. He also leaves his aunt, Melanie (Fred) DeLuca, uncle, Anthony (Emily) Tomaino, and aunt, Sharyn (Hugh) Thomas, along with several cousins, Anthony DeLuca, Anthony Tomaino Jr, Michael Tomaino and Cole Thomas. He was also a loving and responsible “cat dad” to Myron, whom he personally adopted from West Side Cats and Myron’s brother, “Jack-Jack” whom he affectionately called “Biggins” because of his size.

A sophomore at South Range High School, Dominic was a proud member of the “South Range Raider” marching band, playing the trombone. He was also a self-taught guitarist until starting lessons at Guitar Center in Boardman. He played several times in their Sunday recitals.

Dominic enjoyed frequent travel and had been all over the United States and Canada including Disney World too many times to count. He also visited many Caribbean countries as far away as Belize while on cruises with his family.

Dominic had recently started a job at Bellino's True Tread Tire in Canfield, where he was quickly becoming known for his reliability and eagerness to learn. He had recently purchased his first car and received his first paycheck. Dom's natural ability and interest in working with cars and motors shone through.

Dominic was smart, witty, sarcastic and had a dry sense of humor like no other. If you were his true friend, he would love and care about you, even if he didn’t always say it. He was a baptized Christian who attended First Christian Church in Columbiana then most recently Greenford Christian Church where he rarely missed a Sunday, even when his mother told him to sleep in. Though he was not old enough to vote yet, he was going to be a great Republican someday.

We bid farewell to Dominic knowing that his legacy of love and compassion will continue to inspire those who were fortunate enough to know him. To honor Dominic, please try to spread kindness and compassion to everyone. Find someone sitting alone, or someone having a bad day, and give them a smile. You never know what somebody is going through. Be kind to everyone, even if they do not always deserve your kindness.

The family would like to thank the friends and people throughout the community for the love and support they have shown them at this difficult time.

Friends and family will be received from 4:00-6:00 p.m. Wednesday, May 29, 2024 at Greenford Christian Church, 11767 Lisbon Road, Greenford, Ohio 44422.

A funeral service will be held at 6:00 p.m. Wednesday at the church, with Samuel Rodriguez, High School Minister of Greenford Christian and Pastor Drew Bromm of Columbiana Christian Church officiating.

Memorial contributions in his name may be made to the family who are establishing a scholarship in his name for a South Range Band Student, West Side Cats ℅ Kim Kooser where he adopted his beloved Myron or the Teegan Kamzelski Humanitarian Initiative thru Akron Children’s Hospital which suppprts mental health and suicide awareness.
