Donald L. Kuhns

Donald L. Kuhns was called to be with his Lord on Saturday, September 28, 2024, surrounded by his family.  

Donald “Donny” Kuhns was born on August 27, 1930, in Marquis, Ohio. Donny graduated from Greenford High School in 1948. He then married his sweetheart, Beverly Rhodes, on June 8, 1952. One week later, he deployed to Korea for 18 months with the United States Army at the rank of corporal. The US Army recognized Donny for his honorable service with a Purple Heart.  

He was a dedicated family man, known for his unwavering work ethic, love for his family, and the strong values he instilled in those around him. Donny worked as a 7-Up distributor and spent most of his career at Panelmatic as a purchasing agent. He was known for always being home at 5:30 for dinner with his wife and three children, even as he pursued his bachelor's degree from Youngstown State University.

Donny was deeply committed to his community, always offering his time and efforts to make a positive difference in the lives of others. Throughout his life, he served Green Township in a variety of ways — as a volunteer firefighter and a dispatcher for the Green Township Fire Department as well as a Green Township Trustee. As an active member of Greenford Christian Church, Donny served many years as both the treasurer and a deacon.  

Donny always made use of every moment in his 94 years of life. He loved to golf, visit the library, and watch South Range and Cleveland sports. After retirement, Donny and Bev looked forward each year to spending the winter months in Florida. His pride and joy was his garden and lawn, where he spent countless hours ensuring he had the best lawn in Greenford. Every summer he loved to bring his family together to transform his harvest into food for the whole year - corn, tomato sauce, green beans and more.

Donny was a true patriarch and a beloved husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather. He will be remembered for his steadfast loyalty, dedication, and integrity, always dependable in times of need and a true example of strength and character. He showed this to those he loved through 72 years of honest love to his bride, never missing an opportunity to show up for his kids, always having “specials” for his grandchildren during weekly Sunday lunch, and by making Halloween memorable for his great grandchildren with a treat bag that always included a nutritious apple.

Donny is survived by his beloved wife, Beverly Ann Kuhns and his children, Dawn (David) Dickey, Brad Kuhns, and Tracey (Tony) Parks. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Katie, Jenny, Allison, Lauren, Devon, Ethan, and Sam as well as 12 great grandchildren and counting. He is preceded in death by his parents, Harry Kuhns and Minnie Bell LaRue and his 12 siblings.  

Calling hours for Donny will be from 10:00-11:00 a.m. Tuesday, October 1, 2024 at Stark Memorial Funeral Home. A funeral service will immediately follow at 11:00 a.m. with Bruce Rhodes Jr. officiating.
