Donald L. Kirkwood

COLUMBIANA - Donald L. Kirkwood, 83, peacefully passed away on Sunday, October 12, 2025, at St. Mary’s Alzheimer’s Center in Columbiana.

Donald was born on January 10, 1942, in Youngstown, Ohio, to the late Truman and Myrtle (Fenton) Kirkwood. He graduated from Western Reserve High School in 1959.

Shortly after high school, Donald met Leila Foster. They were married on August 4, 1963. They have spent 62 loving years together.

Donald worked at FA Pilgrim, an aluminum extrusion plant for more than 20 years and continued in that line of work until retiring.

Donald had many skills and interests, but woodworking was where his talents really flourished. He created many pieces of furniture and toys over the years, some that will remain a reminder of his skill and love of the practice itself. He enjoyed watching westerns and gardening at his home in Berlin Center. Donald also spent much time with the Boy Scouts Troop #71 in Ellsworth and volunteering at Habitat for Humanity.

Donald will be dearly missed by his wife, Leila Kirkwood, his two sons, Westly (Bonnie) Kirkwood and Dan (Laura) Kirkwood, and his daughter, Patty (Lance) Kramer. He will be fondly remembered by his four grandsons, Benjamin Kirkwood, Christopher Kirkwood, Jacob Kirkwood, and Robert Kirkwood. He also leaves behind a sister, Norma (Bill) Ross, a sister-in-law, Sherry Wemer, brother-in-law, Roger Baringer, and numerous nieces and nephews. Donald will also be greatly missed by his good friend, John Edwards.

Family and friends will be received from 10:00-11:00am on Thursday, October 23, 2025, at Stark Memorial Funeral Home, 1014 E. State St., Salem, with a funeral service to follow at 11:00am.   

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to St. Mary’s Alzheimer’s Center located at 1899 W. Garfield Rd, Columbiana, OH 44408.
