YOUNGSTOWN - Donna Jean (Sparago) Elifritz, known affectionately as Donna Jean to her friends and family, passed away tragically in a motor vehicle accident on June 7, 2025, at the age of 55. Born on April 26, 1970, in Cleveland, Ohio, Donna Jean was a vibrant soul whose life was a testament to love, dedication, and service.
Donna Jean grew up in a close-knit family and carried the values of togetherness and warmth throughout her life. She was the cherished daughter of Joan Mae Sparago and Dominic Sparago, both of whom predeceased her. Donna Jean is survived by her devoted husband of 32 years, Wesley Elifritz, with whom she shared a lifetime of memories and unwavering partnership. Their love story was one of mutual support and together they raised three wonderful children, the eldest, Tiffany Elifritz, age 31; Amanda Elifritz, age 29; and Andrew (Bri Miller-Elifritz) Elifritz, age 28; as well as a granddaughter, Aria, age 8. She also leaves behind a sister, Joanie (Sparago) Shanley of California.
Donna Jean's presence in her family's life was a source of joy and comfort, and she will be profoundly missed by all who knew her.
A proud graduate of Salem High School, Donna Jean's education laid the foundation for her successful career as a self-employed professional. Her entrepreneurial spirit was matched only by her commitment to her community. She was deeply involved in various church functions and activities, which reflected her passion for faith and fellowship.
Country music and dancing were amongst Donna Jean's favorite pursuits, as well as celebrating the holidays, a reflection of her spirited and gentle nature. Her love for church gatherings was an extension of her thoughtful character, where she found joy in connecting with others and celebrating her faith.
Those who knew Donna Jean would describe her as an embodiment of thoughtfulness and gentleness, with a spirited energy that was contagious. She had a profound impact on everyone she met, leaving behind a legacy of kindness and a community that is better for her having been a part of it.
A quote that captures the essence of Donna Jean's approach to life is from the esteemed poet Maya Angelou: "Try to be a rainbow in someone's cloud." Donna Jean indeed was that rainbow for many, bringing light and color to the lives of those around her, even on the cloudiest of days.
As we mourn the loss of Donna Jean Elifritz, we also celebrate her remarkable life—a life lived with purpose, love, and a generosity of spirit that will continue to inspire those she has left behind.
