SALEM – Doris L. Niederhiser, age 90, died at 6:14 a.m. Sunday, January 27, 2019 at Salem Regional Medical Center. She was born June 5, 1928 in Salem, Ohio, the daughter of the late Harry H. and Gertrude N. (Lease) McCartney.
Doris worked for the Salem City Schools for 37 years, and was the secretary of the superintendent. She previously worked for the Crane Deming Pump Company.
She was a member of the First Christian Church since 1940, the Christian Women’s Fellowship, Fluff and Fold, a Sunday school teacher, the Rachel Group and the Faithful Followers Sunday School Class.
Doris was the Queen Bee of the Red Hat Grannies of Salem.
Her husband, Virgil L. “Mo” Niederhiser, whom she married May 24, 1947, preceded her in death September 27, 1977.
Survivors include two sons, Dennis L. (Melissa) Niederhiser of Salem and Leonard L. Niederhiser of Louisville; a sister, Pearl Mae Farmer of Salem; grandchildren, Jarrod Niederhiser, Kayla (Ben) Horvath, Thomas (Lauren) Niederhiser, Adam (Katie) Niederhiser, Jack Niederhiser; great-grandchildren Wyatt Niederhiser, Joanna Niederhiser, Emerson Horvath and Reagan Horvath.
Besides her parents, an infant brother also preceded her in death.
Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, January 30, 2019 at the First Christian Church with Rev. Leonard Moore officiating. Calling hours will be held from 10:00-11:00 a.m. Wednesday at the church and 6:00-8:00 p.m. Tuesday, January 29, 2019 at Stark Memorial Funeral Home and Cremation Services. Burial will be at Grandview Cemetery in Salem.
