Edward L. Ackerson

SALEM - Edward Lewis Ackerson, known affectionately as Ed or Eddie, passed away peacefully early Friday morning, August 16, 2024, at Salem Regional Medical Center. Ed was born on September 29, 1933, in Pittsburgh, Pa.

Ed was the beloved husband of Mary (Cook) Ackerson, with whom he shared a loving marriage since April 4, 1959. He was a devoted father to his children, Alan Ackerson and his wife, Paula of Girard, OH, Cathy Jeffries and her husband, Jim of Boise, ID, Daniel Ackerson and his wife, Vonda of Jacksonville, FL, and Amy Cassie Ackerson of Columbus, OH. His legacy continues through his cherished grandchildren, Emily, Victor, Jason, Michelle, Jamie, Taylor, and Danielle, as well as his three great-grandchildren, Dani, Rylee, and Haven. Ed was preceded in death by his father, Dale Ackerson; his mother, Estelle (Holland) Ackerson; his stepmother, Catherine Ackerson; and his sister, Dora Patsiga.

Ed's interests were diverse and reflective of his love for life. An avid runner, he competed in over 26 marathons and other long-distance races over the years, maintaining an active and healthy lifestyle. His love for animals, carpentry and the outdoors were evident. Ed was a graduate of Geneva College with degrees in Education and Engineering. Together with his wife Mary, Ed was a longtime member of the Greenford Christian Church, where he lived out his faith through service and fellowship.

Friends and family will be received from 10 AM until Noon on Monday, August 26, 2024, at Stark Memorial Funeral Home, where a funeral service will be held beginning at Noon, with Minister John Bush officiating. Burial will follow in Greenford Cemetery.
