Elizabeth “Betty” M. Ley, a cherished mother, grandmother, and friend, passed away peacefully at the age of 90 on Monday, October 14, 2024, at Crandell Medical Center in Sebring, OH. Born on October 6, 1934, in Pittsburgh, PA, she was the daughter of the late Leroy and Irene (Weidner) Arnold.
Betty's life was marked by her unwavering dedication to her family and her love for animals, particularly her beloved black labs. Her nurturing nature extended beyond her own family to the many dogs she cared for throughout her life. She retired from Whitehouse Fruit Farm and enjoyed watching football, especially the Pittsburgh Steelers.
In 1954, Betty married the love of her life, Richard Ley, with whom she shared 23 years of marriage until his passing in 1977. Her strength and grace were evident as she continued to provide a loving home for her children after the loss of her husband.
Betty is survived by her devoted children, Karen Schandel and Rick (Flo) Ley; her adoring grandsons, Chad (Casey) Schandel, Brian Schandel, Saige Ley, and Stone Ley. Each of them carries forward her legacy of kindness, generosity, and the importance of family.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Richard Ley; her daughter, Kathy Ley; and her son-in-law, John Schandel. Elizabeth's memory will be honored by her family, who continue to embody the values she instilled in them.
A private celebration of Betty's life will be held by the family at later date.
