SALEM - Frederick Richard "Fred" Delp, a cherished husband, father, grandfather, and pillar of the Salem community, passed away peacefully on January 27, 2025, at Covington Skilled Nursing and Rehab Center in East Palestine, where he was a patient for a short time. Fred was born on August 8, 1943, in Salem, Ohio, to the late Louis and Kathryn (Stefal) Delp, Fred's warmth, generosity, and dedication to his family and friends defined his 81 years of life.
Fred grew up in Salem, where he attended Greenford High School, graduating with the class of 1961. After high school, he honed his skills to become a respected tool and die maker, a trade that would lay the foundation for his professional journey. His entrepreneurial spirit led him to co-own Quaker Manufacturing, where he applied his expertise and work ethic to build a successful career.
Fred's life was blessed with love and companionship when he married his beloved wife, Janet (Woodson) Delp. Their relationship was one from the movies where two souls intertwined and instantly became lifelong soulmates. Together they created a life filled with joy and unbreakable love. Besides his wife, Fred leaves three children, son, Richard Delp and his wife Dorothy of Beloit, daughter, Kelly Allenbaugh and her husband Tom of Alliance, son, Jeff Delp of Salem, two stepchildren, Stacey Jarrett of Salem, and Dustin Elliott and his wife Breanna of Wendell, NC. Fred is also survived by his brothers, Gary and Randy, and sisters, Lois and Ellen, 15 grandchildren, and nine great-grandchildren, who brought him immense joy and pride. Fredrick is proceeded in death by parents as well as his brothers and sister, Steve, Sam, and Alice.
Fred's love for his country and community was unwavering. He was a life member of AMVETS Post #45, the VFW 892, Eagles #316, The Italian Club, The Slovak Club, The Salem Club, and The Shriners. His dedication to supporting veterans' and police/first responders' organizations, particularly the K9 units, was a testament to his generous spirit. Fred’s hobbies and passions included traveling, hunting, guns, riding motorcycles, and enjoying a beautiful day on the golf course with his friends.
In the heart of his family, he stood as a loving husband, devoted father, and cherished friend, embodying the essence of kindness and selflessness. With a deep passion for helping others, he dedicated his life to uplifting those around him, always prioritizing the needs of his loved ones above his own. This humble man worked tirelessly, pouring his heart and soul into every endeavor, yet he never missed an opportunity to share laughter and wisdom with his family. His unwavering commitment to protecting and nurturing those he cared for created a legacy of love that will echo through generations, ensuring that his memory lives on in the hearts of all who were fortunate enough to know him.
Following Fred's wishes there are no calling hours, but a private celebration of life will be held at a later time. The family would like to extend a special thanks and gratitude to Southern Care Hospice for their beyond exceptional care for Fred. To Annalee and Trisha who were not only tremendous help with Fred but to Janet as well. Your outstanding level of care, commitment, and compassion during these difficult times will never be able to be repaid.
