Gary Leroy McKarns

Salem- Gary Leroy McKarns passed away at the age of 78 on Saturday, August 31, 2024, at Salem West.

Born on September 29, 1945, in Salem, Ohio, Gary was the son of the late Roy and Helen (Laughlin) McKarns.

Gary graduated from Southern Local High School in 1964.

His entrepreneurial spirit shone brightly as the owner and operator of his own truck, where he dedicated 41 years of service driving for several different companies. His leadership and work ethic left an indelible mark on the industry and those who worked alongside him.

He was a member of St. Paul Catholic Church.

Gary is survived by his wife, Doris Marie (Beki) McKarns of Salem, whom he married June 25, 1966; his sister Naomi (Jim Johnson) of Salineville.

Besides his parents, Gary was preceded in death by his son, Dwight; one sister, Nancy Chidester; and one brother, Greg McKarns.

Friends and family will be received Wednesday, September 4, 2024, from 5-7 p.m. at Stark Memorial. Mass of Christian Burial will be Thursday, September 5, 2024, at 11:00 a.m. St. Paul Catholic Church. Gary will be laid to rest at Green Haven Memorial Gardens in Canfield.
