SALEM - Georgene Scott, 93, a beacon of warmth to her family and friends, went home to be with the Lord on September 16, 2025.
She was born on October 6, 1931, to the late Edward H. Weingart and Iva (Riffle) Weingart.
A lifelong resident of Salem, she worked for Schwartz's Dress Shop, where her impeccable taste and genuine smile made her a beloved saleswoman.
An active and devoted member of the Bunker Hill United Methodist Church, Georgene's faith played a central role in her life.
As a matriarch, Georgene was unparalleled. Her culinary skills were legendary; her family dinners were more than meals—they were gatherings that brought laughter, love, and memories to the table.
Georgene's family was the cornerstone of her life. She leaves behind a legacy of love and devotion in her son, Terry (Carol) Scott; daughters, Shelley Chappel and Tamra Scott; brother, Kenneth (Dorothy) Weingart; sisters, Nancy (Jim) Kelly and Joan Mellinger; eight grandchildren, one step-grandson; and nine great-grandchildren who were the light of her life.
Georgene was preceded in death by her parents, her devoted husband, John H. Scott, whom she married on November 12, 1950, and preceded her in death in August 2008; her beloved daughter, Nancy Jo Williams; brothers, Raymond and Norman Weingart; and sister, Barbara Wells.
A funeral service is scheduled for 11:00 a.m. Saturday, September 20, 2025, at Bunker Hill United Methodist Church with Pastor David Andrews. Visitation will take place one hour prior to the service. Burial will take place at Bunker Hill Cemetery.
The family ask that memorial contributions be made in Georgene’s name to a charity of the donor’s choice.
