Sebring - Georgene E. King, 93, formerly of Warren, joined the church triumphant on Monday, September 22, 2025, at Crandall Medical Center.
Born on October 29, 1931, in Youngstown, OH, she was the daughter of George and Mabel (Betts) Blair. Her early years were marked by the loss of her mother, which led her to be raised in a foster home. This chapter of her life shaped Georgene into a compassionate and nurturing soul.
A graduate of Howland High School, Class of 1950, Georgene married Austin P. King on December 28, 1951. Their union was a testament to true love and partnership, celebrating 61 years of marriage until Austin's passing on July 23, 2013. Together, they built a home filled with love, kindness, strong faith in the Lord and an open door to those in need.
Georgene's heart was as boundless as her faith. She was determined to make a difference in the lives of children facing challenges. Alongside her husband, Georgene welcomed numerous foster children into their home, providing unconditional love to those who needed it most. Her role as a stay-at-home mom and wife was one she embraced fully, always placing the needs of her family above her own.
She hosted numerous Bible studies, volunteered for VBS, Bible clubs in the schools and Prison Ministries. She was also involved with her church, leaving us an example of a life of service.
Later in life, after her children were grown and her fostering duties had waned, Georgene sought new ways to contribute to her community. She found joy and purpose in working for Mobile Meals. Her dedication to service was a hallmark of her character and she lived her life as a testament to the power of giving.
Loving memories will be carried on by Georgene's daughters, Denise (Tom) Mackall of Lake Milton, OH, Marlene (James) Orr of Lakewood Ranch, FL, Darla (Cary) Erickson of Athens, GA, Michelle (Jeff) Davis of Casa Grande, AZ, Erin King of San Angelo, TX, Cindy (John) Richer of Burton, OH, and Peggy (Dave) Mercandino of New Middletown, OH; sister, Jean Bush of Delaware, OH; 18 grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren.
In addition to her parents and husband, Georgene was preceded in death by a daughter, Theresa Pascal; sisters, Irene Nichols, Genevieve Barnes, and Mary Lambright; and brothers, Wendall Blair and Ralph Bowen.
A memorial service honoring Georgene's life will be held at 4:00 p.m. on Saturday, October 11, 2025, at The Chapel at Copeland Oaks, 800 S. 15th St., Sebring, OH 44672, with a gathering time one hour before and a reception to follow. The burial was held at Crown Hill Burial Park in Vienna.
Since 2019, Georgene has made her home at Copeland Oaks, and memorial contributions may be made in her name to The Oaks Foundation, 715 S. Johnson Rd., Sebring, OH 44672.
