Harold Gray Obituary

SALEM, OH - Harold William Gray, a cherished educator, loving husband, father, and grandfather, passed away peacefully Sunday, August 18, 2024, at Mercy Health - St. Elizabeth Hospital in Youngstown. Born on April 1, 1942, in Bradford, PA, he was the son of the late Richard and Myrtle (Stiver) Gray.

Harold's life was marked by his dedication to teaching, his love for his family, and his passion for travel and the great outdoors.

Harold's journey began in the small town of Bradford, where he was raised and educated, graduating from the local high school. He went on to attend Westminster College, where he not only received his degree but also met the love of his life, Betty, at a Baptist summer camp during their senior year. After college, Harold and his wife moved to Philadelphia, where he began his lifelong vocation as an educator. It was there that he secured his first teaching position.

Eventually, Harold and his wife settled in Hubbard, OH, where he became a beloved history teacher at Hubbard High School. His influence extended beyond the classroom as he took on various administrative roles at Cardinal Local in Middlefield. Harold was also the voice of the Hubbard Eagles marching band, a role he performed with great enthusiasm.

He and his wife, both educators, shared a passion for camping and traveling. Together, they explored the United States, creating memories along the way. Their shared desire to travel also took them to Europe where they explored different cultures and histories.

Harold retired from Cardinal Local School in Middlefield. After retirement, he continued to be an active member of his community, particularly at Greenford Christian Church, where he was a devoted member.

He is survived by his devoted wife of 59 years, Betty (Babel) Gray, who was his partner in every aspect of life. He was a proud father to Dede (William) Webb and Nathan (Janet) Gray, and a doting grandfather to Jorden Webb, Sydney Webb, and Avery Gray.

A private service will be held by the family to honor Harold's life and legacy. He will be laid to rest at Belmont Park Cemetery.
