Obituary

SALEM - Frederick “Hayden” Johnson, 22, passed away peacefully at his home after a lifetime of battling a brain tumor on Tuesday, May 30, 2023. He was born April 23, 2001, in Salem, Ohio, son of Frederick “Sam” and Julie (Loudon) Johnson.

He was a 2020 graduate of Salem High School.

Hayden is survived by his devoted parents; sister, Paige; maternal grandmother, Marilyn Loudon; uncle, Jeff (Lisa) Johnson; aunts, Vicki (Duane) Prusia, Cindy Johnson, life-long confidante, Kathleen Schuster and family, as well as many additional cousins and friends.

Hayden is preceded in death by maternal grandfather, Russell Loudon; paternal grandparents, Fred and Elizabeth Johnson. He now joins his lifelong friends, Art Schuster, Mak Kid and Peg and Larry Evans who also preceded him in death.

Hayden loved working on his family’s farm and during high school, he worked at the Salem Giant Eagle. Throughout his life, Hayden kept busy with many hobbies. He was a member of the Lone Rangers 4-H club where he won awards for his steers and photography at the Columbiana County Jr. Fair. He was a committee member of the NWTF (National Wildlife Turkey Federation) and liked to hunt and fish. Above all, Hayden was known for his love of desserts and pizza and was the proud honorary PR man for Mary’s Pizza in Lisbon.

Hayden loved to travel and was happiest when he was surrounded by friends and loved ones to share the stories of his family’s adventures. From dogsledding on a glacier in Alaska to alligator wrestling in the Everglades, to flying over volcanoes via helicopter in Hawaii, to a once-in-a-lifetime hunting trip for deer with the Catch-A-Dream foundation, Hayden’s short life was filled with adventurous travel experiences. He also created countless memories while cruising throughout the Caribbean and through beach trips to the Outer Banks, N.C. Hayden will be forever known for his sense of humor and ability to make everyone around him laugh with his whit. He loved cheering on Penn State football and would take on Ohio State fans every time he had the chance.

The family would like to express their sincerest gratitude to all medical professionals, including the doctors, surgeons, nurses, radiologists, and music-therapists, at Salem Regional Medical Center, Johns Hopkins Hospital, Massachusetts General Hospital and The Cleveland Clinic Children's Hospital who worked so tirelessly to ensure that Hayden had the chance to live a full and happy quality of life.

A celebration of Hayden’s Life will be held at 11:00 a.m. on June 10, 2023, at The First Presbyterian Church in Salem.
