SALEM - Hayward “Shag” F. Whitehair Jr., 80, passed away Sunday, November 19, 2023, at Salem Regional Medical Center. He was born May 9, 1943, in Grafton, WV, son of the late Hayward F. Sr. and Lottie V. (Kellson) Whitehair.
Hayward worked at Blackhawk Industries for 20 years. He was a life member of the AMVETS.
Survivors include sons, Jay Whitehair of North Jackson and Hayward F. Whitehair III of Columbiana; daughters, Vickie Davis of Lisbon, Linda McQuiston of Salem. Bobbie R. Ramsey of Salineville and Melissa Yorty of Salem; several grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Gail A. (Barret) Whitehair in 2010; sister, Ruby E. Jenkins; brothers, Bob and Arnold Schaffer and an infant brother at birth.
Friends and family will be received from 5:00-7:00 p.m. Tuesday, November 21, 2023, at Stark Memorial. He will be buried later at the Hope Cemetery in Salem.
