SALEM - Jacqueline J. (Lyons) Iler, known to most as Jacque, passed away peacefully on April 30, 2025, at the age of 84. She spent her final days at Blossom Nursing Health and Rehabilitation Center surrounded by those she loved most.
Born on December 17, 1940, in Steubenville, Ohio, she was the daughter of the late Charles B. and Shirley M. (Randolph) Lyons.
Jacque grew up in Winona and attended United Local, graduated from Salem High School in 1958. It was there she built strong friendships and a deep connection to her community. She developed a passion for crafts, especially crochet and knitting, and took pride in the many beautiful items she made by hand over the years.
She had a great love for travel, managing to visit 49 states, Alaska was the only one she didn’t check off her list. Jacque spent 43 years working as an upholsterer at Ort Furniture. Before that, she worked as an assistant manager at Isaly’s for three years.
Jacque had a gift for making people feel welcome. Her home was the neighborhood gathering place, filled with laughter, love, and plenty of popsicles. Many of her children’s friends considered her a second mom; someone who always had time, a kind word, or a helping hand.
She is survived by her children, Devon (Robert) Williamson and Troy (Dale Lynne) Iler; her grandchildren, Lindsay Iler, Paige (Bradley Miller) Iler, and Brendon "Bair" (Amber Canales) Iler; and her six great-grandchildren, Lilith, Amara, Sofia, Isla, Ivy, and Braxton. Jacque also leaves behind her sisters, Eleanora Alexander, Sharlene Brown, and Mary Hammerton Swegan.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Dale Iler; her father, Charles B. Lyons and her foster parents, James A. and Clara Rhodes, Sr.; siblings, Mignon “Mickey” Brandt, Glenda Emelo Berg, Sherry Lyons, James A. Rhodes Jr., Carna Czatt, Helen Benner, Betty Bartels, Donna Lou Murphy, and Donna Crosser.
A funeral service celebrating Jacque’s life will be held at 2:00 p.m., Sunday, May 4, 2024, at Stark Memorial Funeral Home with a visitation starting one hour earlier. She will be laid to rest at Highland Memorial Park beside her husband, Dale, at a later date.
Jacque’s life was filled with kindness, generosity, and love. She leaves behind memories that will be cherished and stories that will continue to be shared for years to come.
