James Pittman Obituary

SALEM - James J. Pittman, 66, went to be with the Lord after a battle with cancer on Friday, June 27, 2025. Born on March 24, 1959, in Salem, Ohio, he was the son of the late Clarence and Ruth (Engler) Pittman. James, a true son of Salem, lived his entire life in the community.

Before his retirement, James was a skilled machinist at Quaker City Castings, a role of which he took great pride. Beyond his professional life, he was an integral part of the Solid Rock Community Church family. His commitment to faith was evident in both his words and his deeds, which were always guided by kindness and a warm heart.

Outside of work and church, James's joy was found in the simplest of pleasures. He had a passion for motorcycle rides that brought him closer to nature and the freedom of the open road. An avid sports enthusiast, James never missed an opportunity to cheer on his beloved Cleveland Browns and showed unwavering support for all Ohio sports teams.

His life was enriched by the love and laughter of his family. James's legacy is carried on by his loving ex-wife, best friend, and caretaker, Donna Pittman, and their children, Brian Pittman of Salem and Miranda French of Leetonia, along with son-in-law Dan Masters of Westville Lake. The Pittman family tree continued to grow including one sister, Millie Pittman of Lisbon; three brothers, Lewis Pittman, Mark Engler, and David "Bubba" Pittman, all of Salem; four grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren.

Though James is now reunited with his daughter, Brandy Pittman, who preceded him in death, the memories and lessons he imparted will continue to inspire and guide his friends and family.

Friends and family are invited to gather and share memories of James from 5:00-7:00 p.m. on Monday, June 30, 2025, at Stark Memorial.

The funeral service, a celebration of James's life and spirit, will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, July 1, 2025, at the funeral home with Pastor Joe Sheely presiding. The service will be a testament to James's enduring kindness and the impact he had on all those lucky enough to know him. James will be laid to rest at Grandview Cemetery, where he will find his eternal peace.
