SALEM – James “Jim” Sherman Hickman III, passed away on Wednesday, August 7, 2024, in Salem North Healthcare Center, at the age of 81.
He was born in Alliance on November 21, 1942, to James and Dorothy Hickman. Jim was a graduate of Alliance High School, class of 1960. His commitment to service was exemplified by his achievements in the Boy Scouts, where he reached the esteemed rank of Eagle Scout.
On June 28, 1963, he married Carol (Krahling) Hickman, in Michigan. He was an excellent provider to his family during his 44 years as a computer programmer. Jim was a devout member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in Alliance, where he found spiritual fulfillment and fellowship.
Jim was preceded in death by his parents and his siblings, the late Myrtle Oberlin, Dorothy Yost, and Bernadine Collins.
He is survived by his wife, Carol; sister, Donna Jean (Walt) Mozzochi; children, Christine (Steve) Owens and Mark Hickman; grandchildren, Eric Evans, Nathan Evans, Alex (Brandie) Evans, Megan Evans, Jarret (Megan) Hickman, Matthew Evans and Emily Hickman; great-grandchild, Asher “AJ” Hickman. He will be remembered as a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend.
A private family service was held at Highland Memorial Park.
A memorial celebration of Jim’s life will be held at 12:30 p.m., September 1, 2024, at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in Alliance.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Missionary Fund of The Church of Christ of Latter-Day Saints.
