Jerry Hofmann Obituary

Jerry L. Hofmann, 76, of Leetonia, passed away peacefully Tuesday, March 25, 2025, surrounded by his loved ones. He was born on July 1, 1948, in Youngstown, Ohio, the son of the late Frank and Mae (Johnson) Hofmann of Greenford. He was a 1968 graduate of Greenford High School.

Jerry was preceded in death by his parents; his brothers, Dwayne and Frank; his sisters, Ethelda Hope and Jensie Wiant; and his beloved wife, Wanda (Best) Hofmann, with whom he shared 51 years of marriage built on love, laughter, and teamwork.

Together, Jerry and Wanda built their beautiful “house in the woods” with their own hands, creating a warm and welcoming space that became the heart of countless family memories. Jerry retired from General Motors Lordstown after 33 years, and enjoyed many, many years of retirement.

He was the cherished big brother to Wanda’s siblings, who adored him like one of their own. Jerry loved being a part of the big Best family.

He is survived by his children, Melanie (Eric) Strohecker of Columbiana, Ohio, and Jeremy (Susan) Hofmann of Oswego, Illinois; his grandchildren, Eli Strohecker, Mia Strohecker, Ian Hofmann, and Aidan Hofmann; Wanda’s siblings, Tonda (Leon) Fowler, John (Lynn) Best, Marla (Skip) Seeger, Mike (Patty) Best, Tina Best (his beautiful caregiver), and Jeff (Linda) Best; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends who will miss his loyal heart and generous spirit.

Our dad loved building furniture, playing music on his phone, his neighbors, his cat Darkness, and spending time with his grandkids. He had the greatest sense of humor, loved making up poems and songs, and had a very kind heart. Our dad was just a really great dad that loved us and our mom every day, fully and unconditionally.

Special thanks to the Cardiac Floor at Mercy Hospital in Youngstown who provided amazing care for him these last few weeks, as well as the Salem Hospital staff where he spent some time this past year.

A celebration of life for our parents, Jerry and Wanda, will be held this summer, where family and friends will gather to share stories, laughter, and love in honor of ‘two American kids doin' the best they can”.
