SALEM – John S. Arter, 75, of Salem, died on Sunday, November 17, 2024, at St. Elizabeth’s Hospital in Youngstown.
John was born on June 16, 1949, in East Liverpool, Ohio, the son of the late Rollin D. Arter and Bernice J. (Chamberlin) Arter.
John was a 1967 graduate of United High School, attended Kent State and Bowling Green State Universities, and received several associate degrees in insurance adjusting. John worked for Crawford & Company for over 30 years and started his own independent adjusting firm in 2001.
An avid sports fan, John loved following his beloved Buffalo Bills and the New York Yankees. John was an avid golfer having played in many leagues in the area including those in New Garden and Salem Hills for over 40 years.
Survivors include his wife, Kathy (Snowberger) Arter, whom he married on July 10, 1982, and his step-daughter, Jenny (Nic) Flores (McClintock) of Lyons, Colorado. He also leaves his brother, Aaron (Danna) Arter, and nephews, Nathan Arter and Seth Arter.
Friends and family will be received from 11 a.m.-1 p.m., Thursday, November 21, 2024, at Stark Memorial Funeral Home, with services to immediately follow at 1 p.m., at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, John has requested that donations be made to the United Community Scholarship Foundation Class of 1967, c/o United Local Schools, 8143 state Route 9, Hanoverton, Ohio 44423.
