John "Jack" Edwin Sweet Jr. Obituary
COLUMBIANA- John “Jack” Edwin Sweet Jr., 80, of Columbiana, passed away on May 1, 2026 at Mercy/St. Elizabeth Medical Center, leaving behind a legacy of hard work, faith, music, and devotion to his family and community. Jack was born on November 18, 1945, in Alliance, Ohio, the son of the late John E. and Donna J. Hole Sweet. He grew up with strong values that shaped the course of his life, and he carried those values with him in all that he did. Jack was a 1963 graduate of Salem High School. For many years, Jack worked as a tool and die maker at General Motors. He was known for his skill, reliability, and strong work ethic, and he took pride in doing his job well. His years in the workforce reflected the same quiet determination that guided so many other parts of his life. Those who knew Jack understood that he was someone who could be counted on, and his example left a lasting impression on coworkers, friends, and family alike. Jack was also deeply involved in his church community as a member of New Life Assembly of God in Poland. His faith was an important part of his life, and he found joy in serving and worshiping alongside others. Music was one of Jack’s great loves, and he shared that gift generously throughout the years. He played in several local bands, most notably The New Breed, Pattern People, Sweet Seasons and he also performed at churches and nursing homes. Whether entertaining a crowd or lifting spirits through a familiar song, Jack had a way of bringing warmth and joy to those around him.
Beyond his work and music, Jack was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather who treasured time with his loved ones. He is survived by his wife, Lana Sweet, whom he married on December 26, 1987. He also leaves behind his children, Dale (Stephanie) Henderson and Bret (Tina) Henderson; grandchildren, Matthew Smith and his wife Jackie, Amanda (Scott) Dry, Logan Hale, Ash Hale, Kristin Henderson, Kimberly Henderson, and Kara Henderson. Jack was also blessed with great-grandchildren, Matthew Smith, Amina Smith, and Norah Smith, who brought added joy to his later years.
He is also survived by his siblings, Susan Geill and Dave (Kathy) Sweet.
