SALEM – John Michael Ammon, 75, passed away Saturday, February 21, 2026, in Youngstown, Ohio, surrounded by his family.
He was born on December 27, 1950, in East Liverpool, Ohio, to the late Clarence R. Ammon Sr. and Teresa C. (Gbur) Ammon.
John was always outdoors. Any moment chance he got, he was building a bonfire or getting his hands dirty in a new project. He would take evening breaks and watch his grandchildren while they played in his yard. He often took the kids on tractor rides with a wagon attached, an activity that he might’ve cherished more than the kids did. He also was particular about cutting the grass, although his expectations were high, he never failed to make it look perfect.
John will be remembered as a devoted family man. He married his wife of 54 years, Linda Shasteen, on May 3, 1971. They created a wonderful family during their life together, a family that cherishes even the simplest of moments together. John loved spending time with his daughters as they were growing up and was gifted several grandchildren—and great grandchildren—which he loved immensely.
He worked at Eljer Plumbingware in Salem, Ohio, for 30 years as a Forklift Operator. He enjoyed keeping busy and making a good living for his family. He retired in 2004 from Eljer.
John was a member of St. Paul Catholic Parish in Salem for many years. He was a man of faith and made it a priority to attend Sunday Mass.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his aunt, Anna Slazack, and two sisters, Mary Jane Bryson and Catherine Ammon, who was just two months old when she passed.
John leaves behind his devoted wife, Linda, and two loving daughters, Nora (Bryan) Heestand and April Ammon-Faulkner. He will also be deeply missed by his nine grandchildren, Samantha Roth, Luke Heestand, Manny Heestand, Sarah Heestand, Ethan Heestand, Evan Heestand, Teresa Faulkner, Isaac Faulkner, and Emily Faulkner; and four great-grandchildren, Emmarose, Ryker, Lana, and Madelyn. He also leaves behind two sisters, Patty Wells and Emma Poling; and two brothers, Clarence Ammon Jr. and Raymond Ammon.

A Mass of Christian Burial will take place at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, March 3, 2026, at St. Paul Roman Catholic Parish, located at 935 E. State St., Salem, Ohio.
