Lanila Hughes Obituary

Lanila L. Hughes, a cherished mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and friend, passed away peacefully on Friday, January 24, 2025, at St. Mary's Alzheimer's Center in Columbiana, Ohio. Born on April 3, 1943, in East Liverpool, Ohio, Lanila was the loving daughter of the late Max and Irene Hutchison.

Lanila's passion for caring for others was evident through her dedicated career as a Registered Nurse and Home Health Aide. Her entrepreneurial spirit also shone brightly as she successfully sold home interiors and Mary Kay products for many years, building lasting relationships with her clients and colleagues.

A talented quilter and seamstress, Lanila found joy in meeting with her group of friends to share in the craft. Lanila's legacy of warmth and creativity will live on through the countless quilts and garments she made.

She is survived by her devoted sons, Robert W. and Doug Hughes; her daughters, Lori Guy and Shelly Pennybaker; and her sister, Sue Hargreaves. Lanila will be dearly missed by her eight grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren, who will carry forward her lessons of kindness, resilience, and love.

Her beloved husband, Bob Hughes, with whom she shared many years of happiness, preceded her in death this past October.

Friends and family will have the opportunity to share memories and celebrate Lanila's life on Saturday, February 1, 2025, at 2:00 pm at Twin Oaks West Pavilion at Firestone Park in Columbiana. The gathering will be a testament to Lanila's enduring impact and the countless lives she enriched.
